2008
Medals
Our Koroneiki has once again achieved GOLD MEDAL status at the
2008 Olives New Zealand annual awards. We have introduces a new
blended Italian style our combining Leccino and Frantoio oils
into our Tuscan blend variety. We gained a bronze medal at the
Royal New Zealand show in November 2008.
2008
season
This year’s season was our biggest yet. We sent over 15
tonnes to the press and our percentage yield was very high. The
harvest began in late May and we had finished by mid June (just
before the rains set in).
Interestingly
(but perhaps nut surprisingly) the characteristics of the oils
have changed from previous seasons. Although our Leccino has been
classified as ‘light intensity’ by Olives New Zealand’s
tasting panel it has a surprisingly ‘peppery’ finish.
The Koroneiki deserves its GOLD MEDAL status once again. There
were only 17 gold’s issued this year which is way down on
previous years. We feel that the long hot dry summer (we can irrigate
which makes a BIG difference) and our attention to keeping the
trees healthy has paid dividends.
Our
Picual has just the right balance of flavour and texture and is
becoming increasingly popular as people get to know it.
New
Products
We have introduced two new boxed items. Our ‘Twin pack’
which holds our most popular oils (Koroneiki & Picual) in
a compact black carry box and our ‘Triple pack’ to
compliment our unique wooden range of items.
Where
we are at now.
This 2008/2009 season is looking to be as good if not better than
the 2007/2008 season with plenty of flowers and a good set (almost
completed) so we are optimistic of another ‘bumper crop’.
The weatherman is suggesting another long hot summer so here’s
hoping!!!
